If you don't know Max (or his partner Sam), I pity you. You have truly missed one of the great adventure games of all time.
"Sam & Max are a pair of fictional comic book characters who occupy a parody of American popular culture. Sam is a 6-foot anthropomorphic dog in detective's clothing and Max is a "hyperkinetic rabbity thing". Created by Steve Purcell in a 1987 comic book, the characters are probably best known for their 1993 computer game, Sam & Max Hit the Road." (Source: Wikipedia)
Sam: Percent sign, ampersand, dollar sign! Max: And colon, semicolon, too! Tool-Bending Guy: What are you #^&@ing doing?! Sam: We're swearing in longhand, asterisk-mouth.
That's the kind of dialogue you experience all the way through Sam & Max: Freelance Police. Its a constant 1-2 punch of humor, and I can only hope that Telltale Games can replicate the feel of the LucasArts' classic with their new episodic adventure, Sam and Max: Season 1, coming this fall.
In the meantime, go check out the read the article at Wired's GameLife Blog about their recent visit to Telltale, or watch the Sam & Max: Season 1 trailer below!
