Videogame sales exploded in September, bolstered by games such as Halo 3, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and continued sales success for Madden 08. Building on the strength of the newest lineup of strong games the consoles also saw a jump in sales for the month. The Xbox 360 saw a huge jump in sales for the month recording its best month aside from last year's holiday season. Additionally, due to increased inventory availability the Wii also has it's second-best month ever.
The Xbox 360 takes control of the software top ten as 4 titles climb the ladder this month, with Halo 3 outselling the other nine together. Meanwhile the DS and Wii maintain two spots each and Sony platform sales seriously flagged last month with only Madden 08 on the Playstation 2 and Heavenly Sword hanging in. That means in the top ten, one PS3 title managed a meager 139,000 units sold

As I said earlier Halo 3 rockets the Xbox 360 into the top spot for the month posting its best month of sales all year with over half a million units sold. The Wii also remains strong passing the half million mark for the month with the DS hot on its heels. Meanwhile the PSP topped both of its brethren for the month and the GBA surprisingly has sales of 75,000 for the month. Again the Playstation 3 shows slow sales numbers almost being topped by the GBA. PS3 sales should pick up starting this month with the new SKU's and price drop taking effect.

Console sales jumped 124% over September 2006 sales. "Although
we've been confident for many months now that the industry was poised
to realize it's best year ever in terms of revenue, the results in
recent months makes me even more bullish. I believe the U.S. Video
Games industry will realize somewhere in the range of $17 to $18
billion for the year," said Anita Frazier, Industry Analyst for Toys & Videogames at The NPD Group.
