[News] [PC]

Touting it as a 'twitch based space shooter MMO' makes me think of the old Descent which I happened to love. But it never looked as good as JumpGate Evolution which is on it's way via Codemasters. Though I wonder where the evolution comes into the equation, I mean are we evolving the gates or ourselves or something else?

The next generation MMORPG is set for release in 2008. It obviously wont' be January. Developed by the US-based experienced MMOG developer NetDevil, Jumpgate is a space-based MMO incorporating all-new action style gameplay like never seen before in any previous online game.

The all-action approach and thrilling, twitch-based space combat really sets it apart from other MMOs in the market and we are very much looking forward to releasing this space epic in late 2008.”

-- David Solari, Vice President, Codemasters Online.

Jumpgate is the definitive space combat MMO allowing players to choose from one of three playable nations and engage in an intense action-packed universe. Embarking on an immersive and accessible space adventure players can trade valuable commodities, take part in dangerous outer-space raids, meet and play with friends and live out the dream to become an elite hero or infamous space pirate. The game features both a rich and varied universe to explore and has been designed for experienced and novice MMO players alike.

Well, they sure are proud of their creation, but will it stand up to the test of the gamers? Is there room in the market for another MMO? Considering that there aren't many 3D MMOG Space combat games, though one could make a case for EVE Online as being that and so much more, will it cave out a niche for itself? They are going to need much variety in gameplay I think to make a difference. That's one of the things I really like about EVE that I find lacking in many other games. The look even reminds me of EVE from these screenshots. But this seems to me to be aiming at the WoW crowd and not the EVE crowd.
