[News] [PS3]

Sony has released firmware version 2.17 for the PlayStation 3 with little fanfare or even information about the update.  Reportedly, the update is simply to fix issues in the OS, although it is also rumored to extend compatibility with PlayStation 2 games.  The rumor implies that the update allows games that required the use of the PS2's hard drive to now work on the PlayStation 3.

Seems odd to release a update that fixes issues with only nine games (over 20 titles in Japan used the hard drive), but either way, it is nice to see new developments.
