Activision announced their latest Guitar Hero III marketing gimmick today.

The Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Companion Pack will feature the "key songs" from the game.  In addition, the disc will also include access to three expansion songs for Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock for the Xbox 360.  The Companion Pack will be released on October 23, 2007, with the game following just five days later.

The extras work like this: Companion Packs will include a code users may input here.  In turn, gamers will receive another code.  This code will be used via Xbox Live. The codes will be available from Interscope once the game is released.  Depending on cost of the Companion Pack, this could be a pretty good deal.

The expansion tracks included with the Companion Pack are:

"Carcinogen Crush" from AFI (from an EP due in December)
"Tina" from Flyleaf
"Putting Holes In Happiness" by Marilyn Manson remixed by Nick Zinner (of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs)

"Tina" and "Putting Holes In Happiness" will appear on the Companion Pack along with AFI's "Miss Murder," Sonic Youth's "Kool Thing," Queens Of The Stone Age's "3's And 7's," Smashing Pumpkins' "Cherub Rock," Velvet Revolver's "Slither," Living Colour's "Cult Of Personality," Rise Against's "Prayer Of The Refugee," the Guitar Hero rendition of "Devil Went Down To Georgia" by Steve Ouimette, and the game's intro by Slash.
