AllHeadlineNews.com posted this article about ZMQ Software Systems, a New Dehli, India company that plans to "globally release four games that began as part of a effort to raise funds to increase HIV/AIDS awareness. The games have so far only been accessible to users of Reliance Infocomm, one of India's largest private cellphone providers." Of course the games will be mobile platform only, but you can look for them as early as September 1st.

I'm not trying to promote the cigarette brand that utilizes the above slogan; I just felt it applied to something I found over at PBS.org. When I was younger, PBS never produced anything quite this cool. PBS has a cool section on their page that was created in conjuction with a program they produced called, "The Video Game Revolution". I did not see the documentary its based on, but the section is a nostalgic walk down memory lane. The quizzes in particular are excellent, particularily the sound clip quiz.

[News]

MSNBC.com has posted an article that discusses the problem with video games based on movies, particularily the blockbuster films. No real new info here, but they make all the same good points. Does anyone remember the last REALLY good video game based on a film (not just a franchise, but an individual film)? I don't. In addition, the article reviews three of this years big movie video games: Jaws Unleashed, The Da Vinci Code, and X-Men: The Official Game. Sounds like the trifecta of bad games.

[X360] [News]

The Official Xbox Magazine UK site is reporting that Microsoft is working on redesigns of the Xbox 360 Controller. For one, Immersion Technologies is working with the software juggernaut on, what else? New immersion technolgies, primarily tactile feedback (that's vibration for you knuckleheads). Apparently, Immersion is "...using LucasArts PC title Jedi Knight II to demonstrate the new hand shaking features" including "...the vibrations are now designed to be context sensitive, so powering up a lightsaber will feel different from firing a shot from a pistol." Now that's cool. The article also goes on to discuss comments made by Nintendo Wii Controller fanboy and Microsoft's Head Xbox Nerd, Peter Moore. Apparently, he feels the current generation of controllers are intimidating to potential new gamerz. Idiot.

Anyone who read "The Da Vinvi Code" and remembers the signifigance of Alexander Pope will appreciate the title of Microsoft's forthcoming exclusive, Alan Wake, "a psycholgical action thriller" (think Silent Hill) according to its developer, Remedy.

Here's the storyline:
You are Alan Wake, a author of horror novels, the inspiration for which is your fiancée. (She gives you nightmares.)

Your fiancée disappears, as does your creativity, and both are replaced by insomnia. Seeking treatment, you travel to a clinic in Pride Falls, WA, and are cured.

While in Pride Falls, you meet your fiancée's twin, and begin sleeping with her. Seems to be a bad idea, because your nightmares return...as reality.

I remember sitting in my brother's living room watching him play the original Silent Hill game on his Playstation, and being terrified at the pixelated horror before me. I can't wait to be A. Wake.

It's articles like this that really make me ponder the title of this blurb. I mean honestly, is nothing sacred anymore? Cash, televisions, cars, your or your wife's underwear, even furniture are all understandable? But to take someone's video game systems and games: unforgivable.
