[OpEd] [Retro]

So I was stumbling around the internet today trying to kill some time while the Just Cause demo uploaded to Cigdangle and the Joint Task Force demo downloaded when I ran across an interesting site.

Every Video Game which purports to allow you to Play all the old video games you grew up with - online and free. Nintendo, Sega, Gameboy and more.

While I loaded D&D Hillsfar (I know, I'm a total geek) I began to wonder about the legality of such a site. I mean the site is probably using ROMs and emulators which aren't really 100% legal now are they? Don't get me wrong I have played some games on Emus in the past, but I never thought it would be a good idea to put up a website full of the games. Then when Hillsfar started I remembered how bad it looked...

So I went on in search of Alternate Reality which was the greatest game I ever played when I was in sixth grade or so. And it WASN'T there!

The site uses Java to run an emulator that then loads the game and allows you to play any of 1,396 games from several old systems. But it's not a complete list obviously.

Hell, it doesn't even have Castle Wolfenstein, Yar's Revenge, Wizards of Wor...

So while this site will allow you to waste away the work day playing games that are nearly 20 years old now it won't fulfill all your dreams. I'd suggest you go play now because if it isn't legal I doubt it will be there for much longer when the interested parties find out about it. I checked the site for some legal notes and found nil, zip, nada, zero.

Of course I'm not going to tell anyone about it...or did I already?

Well the upload is done and the download is nearly done. So I guess it's time to get back to work.
