I’ve never been one for Zombie movies.  Hell, I really don’t much care for horror.  (It usually bores me, and I spend more time laughing, which generally annoys everyone around me.)  But for some reason, I have always enjoyed this movie.

I don’t know if it’s because it’s a movie based on a popular videogame franchise.  Maybe it’s because it was written and directed by the director of Event Horizon (possibly my second favorite set-in-deep-space survival-horror film, behind Alien).  I’ll be the first to admit, I tend to be a "movie snob"; I often watch independent films or movies considered “classics” by the critics of our time.  But I feel it’s just because it’s THAT good.

Mark A. Altman, who wrote the original script for House of the Dead and then lambasted Uwe Boll for what it turned into was also writer of House of the Dead 2 (the film, not the game) and in an interview last year said:

"...I think the film's (HotD2) gotten a pretty good reaction and some nice reviews for the most part. Obviously, it cost a lot less than the first movie but is percevied [sp] as being a much, much better film which is gratifying for both (director) Mike Hurst and myself. We have House of the Dead 3 in development now and hope to begin filming later this year if everything comes together."

ka_lg Man I do not understand why so many people are so down on Uwe Boll. Having finished the weekend trifecta of Boll films (though I'm sure I'll be watching more this month) he is 2 for 3 in my book. Sure Bloodrayne was crap. But House of the Dead was decent although cheesy, I mean it is a zombie flick based on a zombie shooting action game, and it's a zombie flick. If you don't appreciate zombie flicks then I don't think it's possible for you to appreciate that film.

And then there's Alone in the Dark. Starring Christian Slater (who I always liked) and Tara Reid (who can't really act but tries) this film doesn't actually tie into the first game in the series but rather the fourth game - Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare. The film follows the life of Edward Carnby, paranormal investigator. Something happened to him when he was young and he has been searching for answers for 22 years. Unfortunately he's about to get them.

Well apparently it's Uwe Boll weekend at my place as House of the Dead (2003) is the second of his films I have watched already and I have another in the queue I think. But this film was far better than Bloodrayne which I talked about yesterday. This film had action and good music, naked women, zombies and quirky characters, like Clint Howard as the crotchety old sailor Salish. I honestly didn't know what to expect going into this even though I have played the games and knew it was a zombie film. But hey, who doesn't like zombies right? They even reference the 'holy trinity - night, dawn and day,' (which is, as of 2005 a tetrology) way to pay homage to the man who re-invented zombie flicks! Now onto the film review!

BloodRayne is technically an ensemble cast in this videogame to film adaptation. Too bad most of them just needed either a paycheck or a reason to pull that tuxedo out of the closet because most of them called one in on it. It is hard to imagine someone who makes a living out of acting actually being able to do so poorly and still find employment afterward. But this is what I think made BloodRayne, from notorious director Uwe Boll, a poor film. But it is just a poor film and not a 100% cmopletely terrible film. Sure there are flaws in it but there are flaws in most of the Hollywood garbage that comes out as well so nothing is perfect in life, we all know this.

Hot on the heels of several other major busts of games counterfeiters Nintendo reports their Amigos Mexicanos have re-fried from counterfeiting group in Guadalajara and yielded 15,000 beans. They are going to need a very large tortilla to carry all that in.
