[News] [Retro] [Wii]

We in the States have not been as blessed today as the PAL folks were last week.  Enjoy!

Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom
Mega Drive - 1 Player - Rated ? - 800 Points - Sega - 1992

A long time ago, a great war between Orakio and Laya devastated the planet. 1000 years later, a young Orakian prince named Rhys decides to marry the beautiful Maya, his heart’s chosen one. But during the marriage ceremony, a strange creature appears and kidnaps the bride. Were those the legendary Layans who kidnapped the princess? Whatever the answer might be, Rhys has to find it out on his own. He must find his beloved one…

This second game for the Mega Drive/Genesis console takes us back to a medieval setting. The battle system is similar to the one of Phantasy Star II: you can perform simple attacks and special techniques, which require TP (technique points), in a turn-based combat with random enemy encounters.

River City Ransom
NES - 1-2 Players - 500 Points - Rated ? - Technos Japan Corp. - 1990

River City Ransom is the updated version of the highly-acclaimed Japanese game, Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari, which was originally published on the NES. Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari was a cross-over between a beat-em-up and a role-playing game.

River City Ransom is the story of two friends, Alex and Ryan. The main storyline is to save Cyndi, Ryan’s girlfriend, who has been kidnapped by a gang of bad guys. The game uses a side-scrolling fighting style, featuring various different techniques and many weapons. It also has role-playing components to it, as the player will be required to acquire items as well as developing and tracking the stats for their characters. Exploring River City to rescue Cyndi, Alex and Ryan will face the many gangs of the city - and each gang has its own territory and style.
