A number of media outlets have announced that in a future release of firmware, the Sony PlayStation 3 will support playing DivX files.
"We are excited to work with Sony Computer Entertainment to bring DivX to PS3. Our technology will expand the multimedia functionality of PS3 by enabling users to enjoy access to the broad library of content in the DivX digital media format." - Kevin Hell, CEO of DivX, Inc.
Mr.Hell is also responsible for rumors re-circulating about the Xbox 360's potential support for the format. According to Afterdawn.com , Hell, during a conference call with investment firm JP Morgan, was "asked if a recent deal that would see DivX codecs shipped with Windows Media Extenders would mean DivX support for the Xbox 360 console". His answer was "yes", but he added that the deal was not yet final.
If XviD support is added to these consoles as well, few of us will have a need for TVersity anymore.
